This humble bread is probably one of the best gifts to the mankind. It is widely available & popular the world over and makes an excellent accompaniment for any curry. Naan is traditionally cooked in a charcoal-fired clay oven but will work as well in a regular oven or under the grill. This can be topped with any seasonings like ajwain, onion seed, butter or with garlic.
Ingredients :
- Caster sugar - 35 gms
- Eggs - 2 nos
- Milk - 400 ml
- Plain flour - 750 gms
- Baking powder - 1 1/2 tsp
- Salt - 1 tbsp
- Vegetable oil - 4 tbsp
Method :
1. Preheat the oven to 220 C. Place the non-stick pan in the oven to heat up.
2. Mix the sugar & eggs with the milk in a large bo
wl. Stir until the sugar had dissolved.
3. Combine the flour, baking powder & salt together. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the flour & knead gently to make a soft dough.
4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth & leave to rest for 20 mins.
5. Add the oil & mix lightly to incorporate it into the dough. Divide the dough into small balls & roll out into a round shape.
6. Place them in the hot trays & bake for 5 mins (or) grill it until the bread starts to colour slightly (or) cook them over the stove top on medium flame.
7. Once cooked, brush some melted butter or season with any seasonings of ur wish.
Serve immediately with spicy curry.
