Green Apple Thokku | Chutney - Perfect with rice !!


Green Apple Thokku | Chutney -
 a spicy, tangy lip-smacking south Indian relish or chutney made with apples! With this gorgeous fruit in full season, this thokku is the perfect spicy way to enjoy fall flavors! 


Ingredients :

  1. Green apple, medium sized - 2 nos
  2. Oil - 4 tbsp
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  5. Sambar powder - 1 tbsp
  6. A pinch of Hing
  7. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  8. Spice powder - 1 tsp (Roast & grind together 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds and 1/4 fenugreek seeds)


Method :

1.  Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the pan.  Add chopped green apple, turmeric powder, hing, salt & sambar powder.  Sauté for 5 mins over medium heat.

2.  Bring the cooked apples to room temperature & grind them coarsely.

3.  Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the same pan, add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.  

4.  Add grounded apple paste & cook over medium heat for 10 mins or until done.

5.  Once the chutney starts separating from the pan, add spice powder.  Sauté for few mins.



Serve with rice.
