Khasta Kachori / Moong Dal Kachori


Khasta kachori is the favourite snack and most popular North Indian street food.  This is can be done in different style both sweet and savoury.  This deep fried puff pastry taste great with tamarind chutney and green chutney.  

Ingredients :

For the dough :
  1. All purpose flour - 1 cup
  2. Salt to taste
  3. Ghee / Oil - 1 1/2 tbsp
  4. Rava (Semolina) -  1/2 tbsp (Soaked in 3 tbsp of water)
  5. Water for kneading
For the filling :
  1. Moong dal - 1/2 cup (Soak for at least 1 hour)
  2. Oil - 1 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  4. Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. Ginger finely chopped - 1 tsp
  6. Green chillies, finely chopped - 1/2 tsp
  7. Hing 
  8. Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  9. Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  10. Dry mango powder - 1 tsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Oil for deep frying

Method :

1.  Mix together flour, salt, ghee, rava and water.  Knead the dough and cover it with wet cloth for 1 hour.

2.   Drain the soaked moong dal and grind it coarsely without water.

3.   Heat oil in the pan, add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, ginger, green chillies, hing, grounded dal, garam masala powder, dry mango powder and salt to taste.  Saute for few mins.

4.   Take a golf ball sized dough and flatten them using the rolling pin.  Stuff the filling and roll them again like a flat disk.  Deep fry them over a medium heat till golden brown in either sides.


Serve warm with tamarind chutney.

Vegetable oats masala


This is an effortless and healthy breakfast with oats, cooked vegetables and little spices.  Perfect dish for weight loss.  

Ingredients :

  1. Oats - 1 cup
  2. Cooked vegetables (Carrot, beans, peas) - 1/2 cup
  3. Oil  / Ghee - 1 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  6. 1 small sized onion, finely chopped
  7. 1 small sized tomato, finely chopped
  8. Green chillies, finely chopped - 1 or 2 no
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  12. Coriander leaves for garnishing
  13. Ginger garlic paste - 1tsp
  14. Water - 3 cups
Method :

1. Heat oil in the cooker, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.

2.  Add onion, tomato, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder and salt.  Saute till tender.

3.  Add finely chopped green chillies, garam masala and water.  Pressure cook it till done.

4.  Garnish it with coriander leaves.

Serve warm.

Samba Wheat kheer (Broken Wheat)



Ingredients :

  1. Broken wheat (samba wheat) - 1/4 cup
  2. Ghee - 1 tbsp
  3. Nuts (Cashew nuts, raisin, badam) -  1/4 cup
  4. Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  5. Saffron (optional)
  6. Sugar - 3/4 cup to 1 cup (Depending upon your taste)
  7. Milk - 3 cups
  8. Condensed milk - 2 tbsp (optional)

Method :

1.   Heat ghee in the pan, add nuts and roast them.  Keep aside.

2.   In the same pan, add broken wheat and sauté for 3 mins.

3.   Add milk and cook it until the milk reduced to half in quantity.

4.   Add condensed milk, sugar, saffron, nuts and cardamon powder.  Cook for another 5 mins over low flame.


Serve warm or cold.

Bread Gulab Jamun


 Gulab Jamun is one of my favourite dessert.  Bread Gulab jamun is very easy dessert which can be prepared with the leftover bread slices.  And this can be prepared with easily available ingredients at home.  

Ingredients :
  1. Bread slices - 8 nos
  2. Milk - 1/4 cup
  3. Sugar - 1 cup
  4. Cardamom - 4 nos
  5. Raisins - 12 nos
  6. Water - 1 1/2 cups
  7. Oil for deep frying

Method :

1.   Cut the edges of the bread.  Dip the bread slices in the milk and squeeze the excess milk.

2.   Knead the soaked bread slices and make a smooth dough.  Make small balls from the dough and keep raisins inside each ball.

3.   Meanwhile boil water and sugar together till single thread consistency.  Add cardamon and switch off the flame.

4.   Heat oil in the pan, add the bread balls and fry till golden brown.  Once done, add the fried balls in the warm sugar syrup.  Soak it for an hour and serve.


Serve either warm or cold.

Beetroot Tikki


These tikkis are most delicious and healthy snack which can be served with chutneys or just with tomato ketchup.  

Ingredients :

  1. Beetroot, grated - 1 medium sized no
  2. Boiled potato - 1 small sized
  3. Onion, finely chopped - 1 no
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Chilly powder  - 1 tsp (or green chillies )
  6. Roasted cumin powder - 2 tsp
  7. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  8. Roasted peanuts - 1/4 cup
  9. All purpose flour - 1 tbsp
  10. water - 1/4 cup
  11. Coriander leaves, chopped - 2 tbsp
  12. Lemon juice / Dry mango powder - 1 tsp
  13. Bread crumbs for coating
  14. Oil for frying

Method :

1.   Mix some salt in the grated beetroot.  Keep aside for 5 mins and squeeze the juice from the beetroot.

2.   Smash the potato. 

3.   Mix together beetroot, potato, onion, cumin powder, ginger garlic paste chilly powder, peanuts, coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt to taste.

4.   In a another bowl, mix together flour and water.  Make a paste without any lumps.

5.   In a plate, pour the bread crumbs.  Meanwhile heat the oil in the heavy bottomed pan.

6.   Take a small amount of mixture and make a patties between the palm.  

7.   First dip the patties in the flour mixture and then in the bread crumbs.  Deep fry it in the oil until crisp and done.


Serve hot :)

Vegetable noodles


Ingredients :
  1. Noodles - 11/2 cups
  2. Olive oil 
  3. Vegetables (beans, cabbage, capsicum, broccoli, carrot) - 3 cups
  4. Sesame seeds - 1 tsp (roasted)
  5. Onion - 1 no
  6. Oyster sauce  -  2 tbsp
  7. Soya sauce - 1 tbsp
  8. Sugar - 1 tsp
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Vinegar - 1 tsp
  11. Ginger - 1 tbsp
  12. Garlic - 1 tbsp
  13. Vegetable stock - 1 cup (or water)
  14. Pepper - 1/2 tsp
  15. Spring onions - 2 tbsp 

Method :

1.   Mix together the vegetable sock, oyster sauce, vinegar, soya sauce, salt to taste and sugar.  Keep aside.

2.   Heat oil in the pan, add garlic, ginger, onion, pepper powder and vegetables.  Saute till tender.

3.   Meanwhile, cook the noodles in the salted boiling water and add it in the above mixture.  

4.   Add spring onions and roasted sesame seeds and switch off the flame.


Serve immediately.
