Tomato Kurma | Thakkali Kurma | Tomato Korma !!


Easy, delicious and simple tomato kuruma taste great with idly, dosa, idiyappam, rotis and appam.  Instead of coconut, we can use almond / cashew nut paste for this recipe.  Addition of roasted gram(1tbsp) and poppy seeds (1 tsp) will make the kurma thick and distinct taste.


Ingredients :

  1. Tomatoes, chopped - 3 medium sized
  2. Onion, chopped - 1 no
  3. Oil - 1 tbsp
  4. Cinnamon stick - 1" inch
  5. Cloves - 3 nos
  6. Cardamom - 2 nos
  7. Bay leaf - 1
  8. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  10. Green chilly - 2 nos
  11. Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  12. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Coconut, grated - 1/4 cup
  15. Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
  16. Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method :

1.  Grind together coconut and fennel seeds to smooth paste.  Keep aside.

2.  Heat oil in the pan, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, bay leaf and finely chopped onions.  Saute for few mins.

3.  Add ginger garlic paste, green chillies, turmeric powder and salt to taste.

4.  Add chopped tomatoes, chilly powder, coriander powder and cook for few mins.  


5.  Once the tomatoes are cooked, add coconut paste and enough water.  Cover and cook till done.

6.  When oil separates, garnish it with coriander leaves and serve.


Serve with dosa, idly and chapati.
