Cumin Crisps /Farsi Puri / Cumin Seeds puri / Jeera Puri


Cumin crisp is a savoury snack, with the flavour of cumin seeds.  This can be made even without semolina and stored in airtight container for up to three weeks.   For flaky texture, use chilled soda water for kneading the dough.  Perfect snack to serve unexpected guests.


Ingredients :

  1. All purpose flour (Maida) - 1 1/2 cups
  2. Semolina - 1 tbsp
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  5. Black pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  6. Aswan /Carom seeds - 1/4 tsp
  7. Chilled water (or) chilled soda water for kneading
  8. Oil 

Method :

1.  Sieve together flour, semolina and salt in a mixing bowl.

2.  Stir in cumin, carom seeds and black pepper powder.

3.  Rub in a tbsp of oil, add water and mix to form a firm dough.  Knead well.  Set aside for 15 mins.


4.  Break off marble-sized pieces and roll on a lightly floured surface into circle.   Dust some flour and fold in quarters.  

5.  Deep fry in moderately hot oil until lightly browned and crisp.  Remove and allow to cool before storing.


Store it in air-tight container.
